In this workshop we will look at a range of edible fungi that can be grown at home and talk about their potential to support human and ecosystem health and gain an oversight of what they require to grow in your garden or allotment plot.
There will be a demonstration of how to easily grow Oyster Mushrooms at home using common household items. **You will receive a kit to take home with you!**. Discussion will be around the various materials it will grow on, how we can introduce this mushroom into our gardens and allotments and the beneficial effects it can have on our plants and soil.
We will take a brief walk in the Bevendean Community Garden woodland plot and look at what funguses are growing there, what their role is and what edible fungi we might be able to introduce and how.
Weather and supplies permitting we will start a Wine Cap Mushroom patch and talk about how it is beneficial to bee colonies.
You will go home with a good knowledge of:
The life cycle and anatomy of fungi
The role of Fungi in the ecosystem
How to grow mushrooms on a number of different materials
How fungi can benefit your health
How fungi can be used to clean up pollution
And you will receive a kit containing all you need to grow your own crop of Oyster mushrooms!
Weather permitting, soup and hot drinks will be served around the fire. If it rains we’ll get wet so please bring suitable clothing and a packed lunch. There is a shed for bags and tea making.
Prior registration is preferred – please click  Here. Turning up on the day is cool too but there are no guarantees you’ll get a mushroom grow kit or soup.
