Annual poo pick

We joined with Friends of Bevendean Downs today to collect sheep droppings on one of Bevendean's most valuable piece of south facing downland. The sheep help to graze the area but their droppings fertilize the soil which benefit weeds rather than wild flowers. Hence the need for removing it by hand. In a mutually beneficial collaboration, the community garden help with this and then we get the manure for our veggies. Although this year the Friends outweighed us in numbers. It was a beautifully sunny day sheltered from the winds.

Community composting

We emptied the community compost for the first time today. It's pretty good and well composted but we could add even more woody matter as it was a bit wet. We also dug down the donated wire spool for the kids table, very nice. Liz F. had the brilliant idea of using a bowl of water as a level tool. Apart from that, we enjoyed the sunshine. The only missing thing being a good place to nap after the lovely lunch but that can be worked on of course.

And life returns...

Frogs and toads, in the words of Mike D, "got busy in Frisco, fooled around in Fresno..."

Buds, eggs, and early flowers are evidence that spring is around the corner.
